Ready to take the next step with your writing?

Our Critique Workshop is designed to bring together writers in similar genres with similar goals.  With 5 in-depth critique sessions, you’ll get the feedback you need to propel your writing forward.

We’re hosting a 12-week critique workshop for our science fiction and fantasy writers starting March 30th, 2017.

(See details on our critique workshops focused on other genres here.)

Make friends and allies on the path to publication.

You’ll learn to give and receive critique like a pro in a guided, supportive environment. You’ll get feedback from people who get you.

What do we mean?

This is for sci-fi and fantasy writers only. We know your influences, your inspirations, and your references. We’re your people. This means you won’t waste time getting useless feedback from writers who don’t get your work.

``A writing workshop is, in its ideal sense, a community of writers trying to help each other accomplish their best writing. It's first level of value is in its being a community, a gathering of people whose company nourishes each person's life.``
- David Huddle

Workshop Guidelines

When and where will the Workshop be held?

Thursdays at 6:30pm (every two weeks) at the WeWork Soma building (156 2nd Street, San Francisco, CA). It is easily accessible by BART and MUNI.

Do I need to have all the writing done before the workshop starts?

You’ll get the most benefits out of this Critique Workshop if your work is ready for it.  This is not the place for first drafts.  Before you sign up, ensure that you have already prepared the writing to be critiqued for all 5 sessions to be as complete as you can make it on your own.

This way you can use the time in between the sessions to reflect on the feedback you’ve received and edit as needed – rather than trying to get your work ready for the next session.

What if I can’t attend a session?

If you can’t attend one of the sessions, you will receive feedback on your work at the next session. You are also expected to bring your feedback on group’s writing at that time.

What if I don’t know how to critique someone else’s writing?

Don’t worry, learning how to give and receive feedback is an important part of the workshop. We’ll share time-tested principles and strategies and every critique session is guided by an experienced organizer.

What if I’m don’t write science-fiction or fantasy?
