Hi I'm Jonathan O'Donnell from the Research Whisperer blog. I run Shut Up and Write online every Friday morning, in conjunction with the Researcher Development Academy at Deakin University and the Research Education and Development (RED) team at La Trobe University. We start around 9:00 am Friday morning (Melbourne, Australia time) and finish around 12 noon. You are welcome to join for all or part – it is very casual. We work in 25 minute blocks, with five minute breaks to chat, get a drink, stretch and refocus. We will have a 15 minute break after three pomodoros, so people can get up and stretch a bit. If you join and we are all silent, don’t worry – we will catch up with you in the next break. We try to avoid topics of conversation that make people feel uncomfortable. If something does come up, we will move the conversation on to something else. If you find a topic troubling, please change the topic if you are confident doing so, or contact the person running the timer (through chat). Easy ways to change the topic include ‘what are people working on today’ and ‘who is having trouble with their writing’. Please be aware that the session is hosted by an Australian university. While we encourage a diversity of views, we have a zero-tolerance for aggressive or disruptive behaviour. The host of the Zoom session reserves the right to eject anyone from the session.
