Berlin Chapter: Ten Years of Writing
Soon after I first moved to Berlin in 2015, I joined a small group of writers for the inaugural Shut Up & Write! meetup. I had previously attended some in Melbourne, a group that turned out to be influential in spreading people around the world who went on to form new meetups, and I was pleased to see one starting in my new home. Ten years later, after changes in organisers and a few short periods of inactivity, we're still here, and our Saturday meetup still meets in the same venue.
Some have joined us to finish their first intrepid tappings on the keyboard, while others are working on their latest release or finishing a years-long PHD.
The group now has an event nearly every day of the week, and sometimes more than one a day, all across the city, run by people from all over the world, reflecting the diversity and nature of the city we live in. We celebrated the tenth anniversary with an event featuring readings, the first time some of us had heard each other’s work. Again, the event reflected the range of writing that attendees work on, including poetry, academic writing, fiction, comedy, and more. You can listen to some of the recordings here, and if you're ever in Berlin, please join us at a meetup. There should be one running somewhere.
